Directions
Dissolve yeast and sugar in a small bowl filled with warm water. Stir it well until it becomes frothy and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
In a large bowl, mix the bread flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
Using your hands or a dough hook, mix everything until a dough begins to form. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and continue to knead for about 10 minutes or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Shape the dough into the form of a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 2 hours or until it doubles in size.
Punch down the dough to release air, then divide it into 10 equal parts. With each piece, roll and stretch out to form a 10 inch long loaf. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and repeat the process with the remaining dough pieces.
Cover the baguettes with the kitchen towel and let them rise again for another 30 minutes.
While the dough rises, preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit (232 degrees Celsius). Cut diagonal slashes about 2 inch apart on each baguette using a sharp knife.
Place a water-filled pan at the bottom of the oven to create steam. Bake baguettes in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Cool it on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy your homemade French Baguettes!
