Candied orange peel

It is with great pleasure and much love that I undertake to make candied orange peel every Christmas. The play of scents and flavours of winter, the sweet orange scent fills the kitchen.

Directions

120 min.
1. Step

Wash the oranges thoroughly and cut them into thin slices.

2. Step

Bring a large pan of water to the boil, then add the orange slices and cook for about 15 minutes. Good advice: this step will remove the bitter taste.

3. Step

Strain the orange slices and allow them to cool completely.

4. Step

In another saucepan, mix the sugar and water until the sugar is completely dissolved. Cook the orange slices in this sugar syrup over a low heat until they become transparent, this should take about 2-3 hours. Take your time, this step gives the orange peel its sweet, candied texture.

5. Step

Place the orange slices on a tray or baking tray lined with baking paper, then sprinkle them thinly with extra sugar and leave to dry overnight.
