Directions
Begin with the ketchup in a bowl. It will serve as the base for our cocktail sauce. From my experience, it's always best to use a good quality ketchup. Your choice of ketchup affects the overall flavor of your sauce.
Add in the prepared horseradish, careful not to dump it all in one go. The strength of horseradish varies by brand, and it's better to start off with a little and add more to your liking.
Pour in the fresh lemon juice. Be sure to only use fresh lemon juice since the bottled variety does not provide the same fresh, tart flavor.
Here comes the Worcestershire sauce. I found out from years of making this sauce that this ingredient adds a unique depth of flavor to it.
If you're a fan of spicy food like me, add the hot sauce. This is optional, but I often include it because it adorns the dish with a nice kick.
Season with salt and pepper. Remember, it's all about balance. Tweak it according to your taste.
Stir the components together until well combined. You want your sauce to have a nice, even consistency.
Voila! Your homemade cocktail sauce for prawns is ready! Best served chilled, so refrigerate for 1-2 hours before serving. Keep in mind, it's tastier when made ahead of time, allowing all the flavors to marry. Enjoy it with grilled or fried prawns. It's divine, I promise!
