Directions
To bake simple Christmas cookies, first put the flour, sugar, vanilla sugar and grated lemon in a bowl and mix well.
Add the cold butter in small pieces and work in the egg yolk. Work everything into a smooth dough with your hands. If the dough is too dry, carefully add 1-2 tablespoons of milk. But be careful, too much liquid will make the dough sticky and difficult to work with.
Press the dough flat, wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for at least an hour. This resting phase makes the dough smoother and easier to roll out.
Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of about 3 mm and cut out the desired shapes using cookie cutters. You can be creative here and try out different shapes.
Place the cut-out Christmas cookies on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees top/bottom heat for approx. 10-15 minutes until lightly browned.
Once cooled, spread the Christmas cookies with jam, dip in nuts or chocolate or dust with powdered sugar as desired. The cookies can also be baked and decorated quickly and easily with children.
