Traditional Chinese Chow Mein with Chicken, Sauce & Veggies

For the Noodles:

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbls soy sauce Added to

  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce Added to

For the Stir-Fry:

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil Added to
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced Added to
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, bell peppers cabbage bean sprouts sliced mushrooms Added to
  • 1 Cup cooked chicken, beef or shrimp (optional) Added to

1. Step

Cook chow mein noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

2. Step

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water until well combined. Set aside.

In a large wok or skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, saute for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add the sliced onions, mixed vegetables, and mushrooms to the wok. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables become tender-crisp.

If using meat, add the cooked chicken, beef, or shrimp to wok and stir-fry for an additional 2 minutes.

Pour the prepared sauce over the stir-fry and toss to coat everything evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes until sauce is thick.

7. Step

Add the cooked chow mein noodles to the wok and toss everything together until the noodles are well coated and heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

8. Step

Transfer Chow Mein to serving plates or bowls. Serve and enjoy!
