Traditional Split Pea and Ham Soup
A hearty and comforting soup, pea and ham soup is the perfect dish to warm you up on a cold day. With tender peas and smoky ham, this soup is full of flavor and will leave you full and nourished.
Ingredients
- 2 cups dried split peas
- 1 Cup diced ham
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 Stems celery, diced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions
In a pot, combine the dried split peas, diced ham, diced onion, carrots, celery, and minced garlic.
Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and add the bay leaves and dried thyme.
Season with salt and pepper according your taste.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer, until the split peas are tender and cooked through.
Remove the bay leaves.
Using an immersion blender or upright blender, carefully puree the soup until creamy.
Taste and adjust the seasoning.
Simmer the soup for an additional 5 minutes, allowing flavors to blend.
Serve hot and garnish with fresh herbs, such as parsley or thyme if desired.
