Authentic Russian apple pie recipe

This delicious and simple apple pie is one of my favorite recipes. It carries a personal touch in that I brought it back from my childhood in Russia. Sharlotka is a commonly served dessert in Russian families and at social gatherings.

1. Step

1.To bake the Russian apple pie recipe first peel the apples, remove the seeds and cut them into thin slices. A good tip is to cut the apple slices nice and thin, so that they do not become too soft during baking.

2. Step

In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until the mixture is light and creamy. For this I recommend using a mixer to achieve the best consistency.

3. Step

Add the flour, cinnamon and vanilla sugar to the egg-sugar mixture and stir well. The dough should be smooth and without lumps.

4. Step

Add the sliced apples to the batter mixture and mix thoroughly. It is important that each apple slice is covered with batter.

5. Step

Grease a baking dish with butter and pour in the apple dough mixture. Smooth the surface with a spatula and bake the cake at 180 degrees Celsius for about 45-60 minutes until golden brown and the cake comes out clean when pierced with a wooden stick.

6. Step

Let the Russian apple cake cool completely and dust with powdered sugar before serving. A cool tip is to sprinkle the powdered sugar through a fine sieve for even distribution.
