Crispy Vietnamese Pork Belly Roll
The Banh Mi Thit or the Vietnamese Pork Roll is a sumptuous and filling sandwich that would make a perfect lunch or picnic treat. This sandwich stands out for its uniqueness; incorporating the freshness of cucumber, pickled veggies and cilantro, the spicy kick of jalapeño and the savory sweetness of marinated pork, all within a crisp and airy baguette.
Ingredients
For the Pork:
- 500 g of Pork Shoulder or Pork Belly
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- 2 tbls of fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1⁄2 tablespoon of Five Spice
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
For the Pickled Vegetables:
- 2 Carrots (julienned)
- 1 Daikon Radish (julienned)
- 1⁄2 Cup of sugar
- 1⁄2 Cup of rice vinegar
- 1 Cup of warm water
For the Sandwich:
- 6 small Baguettes
- Mayonnaise as needed
- 1 Cucumber (sliced)
- Fresh Cilantro to taste
- Jalapeños to taste

Directions
Marinade the pork with garlic, fish sauce, soy sauce, honey, five spice, and olive oil for at least 1 hour.
In a bowl, mix sugar with warm water until dissolved, then add rice vinegar. Add the julienned carrots and daikon radish, let it pickle for 1 hour.
Grill the marinated pork until cooked, then slice it thinly.
Heat the baguettes in the oven until crispy.
To assemble the sandwich, slice open the baguette longitudinally, spread mayonnaise on both sides, arrange the cooked pork slices, add fresh cucumber slices, then the pickled vegetables. Finally, add cilantro and jalapeños to taste.
