Directions
To bake grandma's classic butter cookies, first sift the flour into a bowl. This ensures that the dough later becomes light and airy.
Cut the cold butter into small pieces and add them. It is important that the butter is really cold so that it combines optimally with the flour.
Now add the sugar, egg yolk, salt and vanilla extract. Work quickly so that the butter does not melt. Mix everything with your hands until you have a smooth dough.
Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in cling film and place it in the fridge for approx. 30 minutes. This makes the dough firm and easier to roll out later.
After the chilling time, roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of about 5 mm. Now you can cut out cookies using cookie cutters of your choice.
Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees (fan oven: 160 degrees) for approx. 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Make sure that they do not get too dark, otherwise they could taste bitter.
Leave the butter cookies to cool on the tray and enjoy the delicious cookies.
