Directions

180 min.
1. Step

Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (180°C), and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. Step

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract together, then gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients while still beating.

3. Step

In a small saucepan, melt the butter and add the cocoa powder, whisking together before gradually adding to the batter along with the boiling water. It's essential to add these warm ingredients slowly to prevent the eggs from cooking.

4. Step

Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Once done, allow the cakes to cool completely in the pans before removing.

5. Step

While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. Beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add the confectioner's sugar and vanilla extract. Finally, slowly pour in the melted chocolate and keep beating until well combined.

6. Step

Once the cakes have cooled, spread a generous amount of frosting over one layer. Top with the second cake layer and spread frosting on top and around the sides.
