Directions
In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.
Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Mix with a spoon or your hands until a sticky dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for around 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough back into the bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Allow it to rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to the highest setting, and place a baking stone or a baking sheet inside to heat up.
Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece out into a circle, roughly 1/4-inch thick.
Carefully place the rolled dough onto the hot baking stone or baking sheet. Bake for 2 to 3 minutes or until the pita bread puffs up and achieves a light golden color. Flip and bake for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Remove from the oven and wrap the baked pitas in a clean kitchen towel until cool. This will keep them soft and pliable.
Repeat with the rest of the dough, and serve your homemade pita bread warm.
