Shortbread cookies are a tradition in my family for the holiday season. Their soft texture and buttery flavor make them worth the time and effort. Decorated with colorful icing, these cookies make an ideal holiday treat.

Directions

40 min.
1. Step

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

2. Step

In a large bowl, combine the butter and sugar until well blended and a smooth mixture is obtained. This is a crucial step to get the right texture. I recommend using room temperature butter to make the process easier.

3. Step

Add the egg and vanilla, and continue mixing. That will give our cookies a nice deep flavor.

4. Step

Slowly add the flour and salt while continuing to mix. Don't worry if the dough looks a little dry at first; keep mixing and the butter will take care of giving it the necessary moisture.

5. Step

When the dough is ready, roll it out with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 1/2 cm. Cut out the cookies with your favorite molds. This is the time to put your creativity to the test, so have fun.

6. Step

Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

7. Step

Bake the cookies for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remember the key is to keep a close eye on them as they can burn quickly.

8. Step

Let the cookies cool before decorating. This is important because if they are too hot, the icing will melt.
