VIDEORECIPE The original Swedish meatballs recipe
Here you will learn how to prepare traditional Swedish meatballs or köttbullar, a typical Nordic dish that is usually served in gravy with mashed potatoes and sometimes with cranberry sauce.
Ingredients
- 300 g minced veal
- 100 g minced pork
- 2 tablespoon breadcrumbs
- 1⁄2 onion
- 1 egg
- 4 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon self-rising flour
- 100 ml milk
- salt
- Fresh spring onion

Directions
Peel the onion and finely chop it. Put it in a bowl and add the minced meat, breadcrumbs, egg, black pepper and salt.
Mix well, take small portions and shape them into meatballs.
Put olive oil in a frying pan and fry the meatballs.
Remove the meatballs and set them aside.
To make the sauce, heat the same pan as the meatballs with the oil used for frying. Add the flour and stir until golden brown.
Add the milk, season with salt and pepper and mix well. Boil for a few minutes.
Add the Swedish meatballs and cook for a further 2 minutes.
Serve a portion of mashed potato on each plate and Swedish meatballs in the sauce. Garnish with freshly chopped spring onion.
