Vegan General Tso's Crispy Sticky Tofu
Experience a delightful Asian delicacy with this lighter, vegetarian version of the iconic General Tso's Chicken. This General Tso's Tofu recipe integrates marinated, crispy fried tofu cubes tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. It's a perfect meal for a meatless Monday or a flavorful weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 Block of tofu, cut into cubes
- 1 Cup of vegetable broth
- 3 tbls of soy sauce
- 3 tbls of cornstarch
- 1⁄2 Cup of granulated sugar
- 1⁄4 Cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 tbls of sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger, minced
- 6 dried red chilies
- 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, chopped

Directions
Start by pressing tofu: wrap tofu block in a clean towel and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes to remove excess water. Then cut tofu into cubes.
Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add tofu cubes, turning occasionally until all sides are golden and crispy. Remove tofu from pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add sesame oil, garlic, ginger and chili peppers. Cook for a couple of minutes until fragrant.
Create sauce by whisking together vegetable broth, soy sauce, cornstarch, sugar, and apple cider vinegar in a bowl until smooth. Pour this mixture into the pan and let it cook until it thickens.
Add cooked tofu back into the pan, stirring to coat each piece in the sauce. Continue to cook for a few minutes until tofu has absorbed some of the sauce.
Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
